Time for your direct reports to review 2016, and plan for 2017. Seeking a different approach this time around? Consider this approach. With them
1). Review priorities/goals/objectives.
2). In every area they fell short.
A. Question if the priority/goal/objective was really that important.
B. If yes- include in this year’s list.
C. If no – either abandon the objective or reassign.
3). If they fell short because they did not allocate enough time – blame yourself first. As the leader, it is your responsibility to make sure they are allocating their resources (including time) to their best use.
Make sure they have available time before you reassign any new priorities. If they can’t handle what is on their plate now - how can they realistically handle more?
