People tend to do what is expected of them. Right? Wrong. People tend to do what they’re supposed to do when they might get caught not doing it. Most of us follow the speed limit (within reason), because we know there’s a chance we’ll get a ticket. Apply this thought process to your reports, your suppliers, your systems, etc. Make sure everyone you work with has an expectation their efforts will be inspected – and they’ll be held accountable. This does not need to be a formal review. It can happen informally, every day during walk-arounds.
