Lead by Example


There are three McDonald's within three miles of my house. You could say I’m in the epicenter of a McDonald's triangle.

Over the years, I’ve visited each location (too) many times. One location offers consistently better service and food than the other two -- and it isn't close.

All three businesses share the same talent pool, food, operations manual and pricing. Why is one location consistently better?

The owner of the top-performing McDonald's is in the store working the front counter, the grill, and the drive-thru. He walks the restaurant encouraging the staff and reminding them of the little details that need attention.

This is not leadership by proxy. This is leadership by example, and each one of the store's guests is a beneficiary.
