PhilTake #31 - The Guidelines
Every business has six critical elements called Morphemes. Morpheme #1 is The Premise (covered in PhilTakes #16-20). Morpheme #2 is The Promise (PhilTakes #21-25). Morpheme #3 – The Sidelines – refers to limitations external forces put on your business, and PhilTakes #27-30 discussed implications for companies stepping outside these boundaries.
Countless companies, at one time or another, find themselves in a desperate position. This can lead to bad decision-making that can put the business, and the decision-makers at risk.
One way to combat this is via Morpheme #4 – The Guidelines. Guidelines are limitations businesses put on themselves. These are the guiding principles used to drive every day decision-making and actions taken by everyone affiliated with the organization.
Guidelines take shape as Mission Statements, Operating Procedures, Business Processes, and as something Simon Sinek calls The Why.
What’s your company’s Why?
