The importance of the third step, Hire Smart, cannot be overstated. There is a tendency to focus primarily on the cost (i.e. the lower the cost, the better). That narrow-minded approach completely overlooks the importance of reliability, quality and overall service levels.
It is tempting to quickly engage a contracted services company, foregoing running a background check or getting references. The mantra ‘be slow to hire, quick to fire,’ commonly associated with employee relationships, also applies to contracted services.
