Are you working on your business?
Authored by Michael Gerber, The E-Myth shares the importance of entrepreneurs working on, and not in, their businesses. You’ve probably heard this advice, but what does it mean?
According to a Small Business Trends article, ““If it can be measured it can be managed. If it is measured it can be improved.” Working on your business should mean that you have the tools to measure and manage and more importantly, your managers have the training to measure and manage those who report to them.”
Eighty percent of small businesses don’t have employees, let alone managers. Is this advice even applicable?
Let’s focus on “If it can be measured it can be managed. If it is measured it can be improved.”
Small business owners can accomplish this by:
1. Knowing the three things most critical to your business.
2. Measuring them.
3. Seeking ways to improve them – while working in your business.
Improvement comes from improving your process, system and results – employees or not.
