Smart-Size Your Business

We’re so quick to label. In politics, you’re red or blue. In business, you’re labeled by size. Are you a small business? A big business? Somewhere in between?

What does business size tell us anyway?

I don't know.

I do know small businesses represent the largest segment of the business population. In fact, businesses with fewer than 20 employees (one definition of small business) make up 89.6% of all U.S. business enterprises.*

How does this description help a small business owner like you improve?

It doesn't, but a different label will.

Smart-sized—sized for what you want the business to accomplish. This size is determined by you, not by outsiders, and looks past standard benchmarks (i.e. annual sales, employees, locations) to what is important to you, such as positive impact on customers and employees or causes important to your staff.

Why is it important for you to determine your business size? If you don't, someone else will.

How can you smart-size your business?
