It's Time to Reconnect with Your Business.
Christmas and New Year's provided opportunities to celebrate, reflect and reconnect with family and friends. Now, it’s time to do the same with your business.
My business changed more last year than it did in the previous 17 years combined. Most of the customers are the same. So are the products and services we offer.
What changed? My role—and how our customers are served.
Until last year, I personally served customers using mostly legacy (i.e. limited technology) means.
Today, my business has a team providing the services, and we’re utilizing more and more technology.
This transition started a year ago when I hired my first employee. I invited him and my contract services team to create and implement processes in line with our mission: On Point, On Time, On Budget.
The impact was immediate.
The business became less reliant on me personally for day-to-day operations. Customers and suppliers alike are better served by this collaborative approach.
I expected that.
I didn't expect to feel so disconnected. My connection with the business was defined by day-to-day operations. In other words, I was working in the business.
Now, I’m working on it.
I am reconnecting with the vision I had for my business and making sure those values are translated into the company culture, business processes, and ultimately, my succession plan.
While reconnecting with family and friends over the holidays, I was struck by what has changed and what remains the same. This dichotomy enables our relationships to grow stronger in the future. I find the same thing happening as I reconnect with my business.
When did you last reconnect with your business?
